Marilyn remembers her romance with Eddie, a soldier who eventually leaves her to marry Veda after being convinced that Marilyn's career is declining and incompatible with marriage. Devastated, Marilyn later encounters David, a fellow actor who comforts her and proposes they work together on independent film productions. When the Veterans' Association invites Marilyn to a reunion dance, David encourages her to attend, hoping to rekindle her spirits, but she struggles with the painful memories of Tom (Eddie's wartime identity) and her past love.
