"I Was a Love Gypsy" tells the story of Gloria, a popular high school girl who discovers that romantic popularity built on casual kissing feels meaningless compared to genuine affection. After a date with Bob, Gloria meets Lon, a man from a wealthy family, and falls deeply in love; they secretly marry despite her father's disapproval and her concerns about his family's expectations. The couple struggles with hiding their marriage and managing family pressures, eventually deciding to keep up the pretense of being single to avoid complications. Roger, another suitor, arrives at Helen's club and introduces Joan Hollis, causing tension when Helen becomes jealous and Joan attracts Roger's attention; ultimately Roger and Joan develop a genuine connection based on mutual regard rather than superficial attraction.
