The reading room
The Brain #18
This issue is an anthology containing two main stories. "Kelly the Great" depicts a young girl who, after her TV antenna breaks and her mother runs out of dough for cooking, decides to use sheet dough to create a cheese strudel; when she loses her favorite doll outside, she seeks help from neighborhood children, but their well-intentioned camping trip to retrieve it goes awry when an adult scout master's complicated rope system backfires and launches him into the air. The second story follows a boy who, after being scolded by his father for wanting to learn circus stunts, becomes frustrated with parental control and secretly obtains a hypnosis course through the mail, planning to hypnotize his father into allowing him more freedom—but his scheme is exposed when his father discovers he's been hypnotized into mowing the lawn.
