The issue contains at least two stories. "Saint Joan of Arc" depicts the life of the French saint, beginning with Joan's decision to become a nun against her father's wishes, her father's consultation with a priest about her calling, and her later sainthood, including scenes from 1792 when nuns were persecuted during the French Revolution. A second story involves Viking invasions of Britain, depicting Danish ships attacking British shores, King Alfred's strategic response, a minstrel's plan involving a magical harp to aid the British defense, and a subsequent ambush and surrender of Turkish forces, with the minstrel rewarded for his heroic deed.
