War Heroes #2
War Heroes #2 features the story "Hero of the Pacific," depicting President John F. Kennedy's experience commanding PT 109 during World War II. Two men found themselves adrift in gasoline-filled tanks after their vessel was rammed and sunk; the crew survived six days without food before reaching an island and swimming to safety. PT 157 rescued them on August 2, 1943, after which Kennedy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his courageous leadership and dedication to his men's survival. The issue also includes a separate combat story featuring a soldier named Ellson who must survive enemy fire and use tactical thinking to outwit a thousand Nazi soldiers attacking his town.
