A young medic named Paul enlists in the Korean War rather than wait to be drafted, joining Easy Company in a dangerous mission to destroy a farmhouse held by enemy forces two miles north of their position. During the assault, Paul's squad faces heavy combat and casualties, with Paul himself being wounded while attempting to rescue a fellow soldier. In a climactic moment, Ted Warren—another soldier—is ordered to detonate a mine to eliminate the remaining enemy position, but the firing pin fails; Warren ultimately sacrifices himself by manually detonating the mine, which kills him and destroys the objective, allowing the survivors to complete their mission.
