Wartime Romances #14
This anthology issue contains three wartime romance stories. "The Happy Marriage Hour" at Station WQAX depicts a bride receiving a household of gifts from lucky listeners. "Wayward Girl" follows a young woman who, after dating two local boys—the responsible Steve and the fun-loving Bart—discovers her preference for Steve only after she has embarrassed him by running around with Bart, leading to a chance encounter in the park where Steve delivers bad news. "I Thought I Was Manproof" tells of a Red Cross representative who vowed never to become involved with a soldier, but after three months of encounters at camp, she finds herself attached to a serviceman and must navigate her conflicting emotions, complicated further when she receives a naval assignment to Tokyo while he prepares to date the "parlor-est ensign" she knows.
