Western Adventures #3

A cowboy named "Lip" Hawkins, alias the notorious outlaw Jake Bullum, attempts to ingratiate himself with locals by claiming to seek western humor while secretly planning criminal activity. The main story follows a gang of hyenas terrorizing southern Texas, raiding banks and farms, with sheriff and townsfolk organizing to track down the gang's leader Fowler and his hideout near Red Dog. The issue concludes with a reader contest offering cash prizes for letters identifying favorite stories, with entries due by February 1, 1949.
