"Fiddlin' Charlie Horn" tells the story of a novelty performer who arrived at the Bar-O-Bar Ranch in the Texas Panhandle around 1868, armed only with a fiddle, during a time when the area was plagued by wolf attacks and men were losing arguments to six-shooters. When a settlement eventually appears nearby, the wolves mysteriously stop attacking, and the inhabitants discover the wolves have found food along the railroad and are no longer hunting livestock. The townspeople realize Doc Baker's railroad has inadvertently saved the settlement by providing an alternative food source for the predators, allowing the community to survive the harsh winter conditions.
