Two hand-colored etched plates by M. Darly satirizing contemporary figures through literary and theatrical allusion. The left panel shows two men in 18th-century dress displaying a fishing net; the right depicts a figure in Scottish costume brandishing a weapon. Both employ grotesque physiognomy typical of Georgian caricature with exaggerated features. These prints descend from Hogarth's narrative sequences and prefigure Gillray's political caricatures. The literary references to *The Merchant of Venice* and *Macbeth* suggest topical targets now obscure. Such prints entertained through personal ridicule and visual distortion, establishing conventions that would evolve into comic illustration and sequential narrative art.
