Schefflera macrocarpa (Cham. & Schltdl.) Frodin

This is a pressed botanical herbarium specimen, not a political cartoon or caricature. The sheet displays a dried branch of *Schefflera macrocarpa*, a woody Araliaceae shrub native to the Brazilian cerrado, with its large obovate leaflets arranged in whorls and clusters of small dried inflorescences. Handwritten collector's labels identify it as accessioned into the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris. Herbarium sheets of this period belong to the natural history documentation tradition, not the print satire lineage of Hogarth, Gillray, or Daumier. No curatorial wall label for a caricature exhibition can honestly be written for this object. To do so would fabricate history the image does not contain.
