Op Jodenkerkhof

This wood engraving depicts figures in period dress gathered in a Jewish cemetery, accompanied by Dutch verses. The print belongs to a long European tradition of satirical imagery. Such scenes—whether by Hogarth, Gillray, or Daumier—employed exaggerated features and social commentary. The wood-engraved technique allowed for mass reproduction of such imagery. The print documents period artistic conventions and social attitudes.
