Hypericum philonotis Cham. & Schltdl.

· Collected August 11, 1906

Hypericum philonotis Cham. & Schltdl.
This is a pressed-plant herbarium specimen, not a political cartoon or caricature, and cannot be described as one. The image shows a dried botanical sample of *Hypericum philonotis* mounted on archival paper, collected in Mexico and bearing successive identification labels — from *H. submontanum* Rose through *H. paniculatum* H.B.K. to the accepted determination by N.K.B. Robson in 1980. It belongs to the Natural History Museum, London collection and descends from the United States National Herbarium. No satirical tradition, printmaking technique, or caricature subject is present. Fabricating such a reading would be inaccurate and irresponsible. A honest label is declined here rather than an invented one.
