Zanthoxylum melanostictum Schltdl. & Cham. — Type Specimen
This is a pressed and mounted herbarium specimen — not a cartoon or caricature — affixed to archival paper at the Natural History Museum, London (BM000798288). It shows dried branch sections bearing large, elliptical leaves of *Zanthoxylum melanostictum*, a neotropical member of the citrus family Rutaceae, collected by Schiede (no. 12449) in Veracruz, Mexico at roughly 1,000 feet elevation. The handwritten field note and printed type label confirm C. Reynel's 1993 determination. No satirical content, printmaking tradition, or caricature is present. A wall label for a print-satire exhibition cannot honestly be written from this object.
