· Collected June 1881, det. N.K.B. Robson 1966

Hypericum anagalloides Cham. & Schltdl.
This is a pressed botanical specimen — a herbarium sheet, not a cartoon or caricature — mounted on archival paper and held by the Natural History Museum, London (BM000624683). The plant, *Hypericum anagalloides* (tinker's penny, a small creeping St. John's wort), was collected at Santa Cruz, California by Marcus E. Jones. A 1966 determination label by N.K.B. Robson identifies it as the type collection of var. *cymosium* R. Keller. No satirical, printmaking, or caricature tradition applies here. The image belongs to the history of natural history illustration and herbarium science, not graphic satire.
