From the exhibition
Scaevola gaudichaudiana Cham.
· Collected August–December 1909, Maui and Kauai, Hawaiian Islands

This is not a cartoon or caricature. The image is a herbarium sheet — a pressed and dried botanical specimen mounted on archival paper — held at the Natural History Museum, London (accession nos. BM001041627/28). Collected by Abbé Urbain Faurie on the islands of Maui (Iao Valley) and Kauai (Honopū), it bears handwritten field labels, a color-calibration chart, and a determination by O. Hotorburg identifying the plant as *Scaevola gaudichaudiana* Cham. (family Goodeniaceae), a Hawaiian naupaka shrub. No satirical, caricature, or comic-book content is present. A wall label for a print-satire exhibition cannot honestly be written from this specimen sheet.
