Admission of Non-Christians to the Society for Public Welfare
· 1864

This Dutch wood engraving satirizes the Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen's decision to admit non-Christian members. The cartoon depicts robed figures entering an institution, while a custodian at the gate appears troubled by the breach of religious exclusivity. The work exemplifies 19th-century satirical print tradition descending from Hogarth and Gillray, using caricature to mock social reform. The print reflects anxieties surrounding religious pluralism and institutional integration in the Dutch golden age.
